The TreeWalker object represents the nodes of a document subtree and a position within them.
A TreeWalker can be created using the Document.createTreeWalker() method.
Properties
This interface doesn't inherit any property.
TreeWalker.rootRead only- Returns a
Noderepresenting the root node as specified when theTreeWalkerwas created. TreeWalker.whatToShowRead only- Returns an
unsigned longbeing a bitmask made of constants describing the types ofNodethat must be presented. Non-matching nodes are skipped, but their children may be included, if relevant. The possible values are:Constant Numerical value Description NodeFilter.SHOW_ALL-1(that is the max value ofunsigned long)Shows all nodes. NodeFilter.SHOW_ATTRIBUTE2Shows attribute Attrnodes. This is meaningful only when creating aTreeWalkerwith anAttrnode as its root. In this case, it means that the attribute node will appear in the first position of the iteration or traversal. Since attributes are never children of other nodes, they do not appear when traversing over the document tree.NodeFilter.SHOW_CDATA_SECTION8Shows CDATASectionnodes.NodeFilter.SHOW_COMMENT128Shows Commentnodes.NodeFilter.SHOW_DOCUMENT256Shows Documentnodes.NodeFilter.SHOW_DOCUMENT_FRAGMENT1024Shows DocumentFragmentnodes.NodeFilter.SHOW_DOCUMENT_TYPE512Shows DocumentTypenodes.NodeFilter.SHOW_ELEMENT1Shows Elementnodes.NodeFilter.SHOW_ENTITY32Shows Entitynodes. This is meaningful only when creating aTreeWalkerwith anEntitynode as its root; in this case, it means that theEntitynode will appear in the first position of the traversal. Since entities are not part of the document tree, they do not appear when traversing over the document tree.NodeFilter.SHOW_ENTITY_REFERENCE16Shows EntityReferencenodes.NodeFilter.SHOW_NOTATION2048Shows Notationnodes. This is meaningful only when creating aTreeWalkerwith aNotationnode as its root; in this case, it means that theNotationnode will appear in the first position of the traversal. Since entities are not part of the document tree, they do not appear when traversing over the document tree.NodeFilter.SHOW_PROCESSING_INSTRUCTION64Shows ProcessingInstructionnodes.NodeFilter.SHOW_TEXT4Shows Textnodes. TreeWalker.filterRead only- Returns a
NodeFilterused to select the relevant nodes. TreeWalker.expandEntityReferencesRead only- Is a
Booleanindicating, when discarding anEntityReferenceits whole sub-tree must be discarded at the same time. TreeWalker.currentNode- Is the
Nodeon which theTreeWalkeris currently pointing at.
Methods
This interface doesn't inherit any method.
Note: in the context of a TreeWalker, a node is visible if it exists in the logical view determined by the whatToShow and filter parameter arguments. (Whether or not the node is visible on the screen is irrelevant.)
TreeWalker.parentNode()- Moves the current
Nodeto the first visible ancestor node in the document order, and returns the found node. It also moves the current node to this one. If no such node exists, or if it is before that the root node defined at the object construction, returnsnulland the current node is not changed. TreeWalker.firstChild()- Moves the current
Nodeto the first visible child of the current node, and returns the found child. It also moves the current node to this child. If no such child exists, returnsnulland the current node is not changed. TreeWalker.lastChild()- Moves the current
Nodeto the last visible child of the current node, and returns the found child. It also moves the current node to this child. If no such child exists, nullis returned and the current node is not changed. TreeWalker.previousSibling()- Moves the current
Nodeto its previous sibling, if any, and returns the found sibling. If there is no such node, returnnulland the current node is not changed. TreeWalker.nextSibling()- Moves the current
Nodeto its next sibling, if any, and returns the found sibling. If there is no such node, nullis returned and the current node is not changed. TreeWalker.previousNode()- Moves the current
Nodeto the previous visible node in the document order, and returns the found node. It also moves the current node to this one. If no such node exists, or if it is before that the root node defined at the object construction, returnsnulland the current node is not changed. TreeWalker.nextNode()- Moves the current
Nodeto the next visible node in the document order, and returns the found node. It also moves the current node to this one. If no such node exists, returnsnulland the current node is not changed.
